The M.A.G.B. Light continuous day show 29th May

Hot off the sucesses of the trip to liverpool the U.S.K.A. crew this time had the much shorter trip to Small Heath here in Birmingham to compete in the Light continuous show hosted by the M.A.G.B. (Martial Arts Great Britain ) organisation. The format for the day had been changed incorporating three round bouts and the all new card system for reffereeing, much the same as the K1 yellow and red card system. The tatic had an immediate impact with longer bouts allowing the more skillfull and fit fighters to prevail, also with the penal system in place and along with some excellent reffereeing on the day by M.A.G.B.'s big Dave Bignell it all made for an excellent show. Our own squad of fighters adapted well to the new format and the lads and lasses were soon notching up U.S.K.A's usual high win ratio. With results as follows. Our usual congratulations ot all that fought on the day.

Jay Collett (U.S.K.A) Vs Otis Belgrave (MY GYM)
ROUND 1 12 year old Jay Collett is first to initiate the attack onto 11 year old 13 fight veteran Otis Belgrave.
Punctuating good punch combinations and finishing with fast straight leg kicks to the body seems to be the key to Jays fight plan in this fight and he is carrying it off well. Jay applying good lateral movement and hit and move tactics finishing with a perfect spinning kick to the head brings the end to an almost perfect first round that he has won convincingly.
ROUND 2 More aggressive start to this round by Otis but it is being negated by Jay's good movement. Both fighters exchange good kicks with Jay being just that little more accurate landing more onto the target to win the round.
ROUND 3 Fast start to the third sees Jay keeping Otis on the end of some multiple kick combinations. Another spin kick lands to the chest from jay to seal the round and the victory. Winner by referee's decision......Jay Collett
Emily Aston (U.S.K.A) Vs Charlotte Hall (YING YANG)
ROUND 1 Both 11 year old girls go toe to toe with punch combinations from the opening bell with the only thing separating the two being Emily's straight leg round kick the body any time she could find the gap.
ROUND 2 Emily starts the second managing to push Charlotte back making it harder for her to work. Charlotte attempts a spin kick but loses her balance when Emily smothers it. Some good exchanges from both girls ends a close round of action.
ROUND 3 Again Emily going forward but Charlotte now fighting well on the back foot. Not alot in this last round but the good early work scores it to the
Winner by referee's decision......Emily Aston
Hakeem Farooq (U.S.K.A) Vs Conor Bignell (BMAC)
ROUND 1 9 year old Hakeem Farooq comes up against the well schooled 10 year old Conor Bignell in a match that would pitch the U.S.K.A fighter in the proverbial deep end. Conor is a good technician and in the first round keeps Hakeem on the end of eye catching high kicks. Hakeem is showing too much respect and is finding it hard to close down the distance.
ROUND 2 A better round for Hakeem. Pressing forward and making Conor fight going backwards. Cleaner kicks again from conor shade the round but a good effort from Hakeem made him work much harder for it.
ROUND 3 More of the same in the final round. Good sustained pressure from Hakeem makes Conor again have to give up ground and fight going backwards.
The impression is that the higher kick count from Conor again has captured the round but Hakeems work rate again has made it close. A well deserved Winner by referee's decision......Conor Bignell
Adam Atherley (U.S.K.A) Vs Joseph Towers (YING YANG)
ROUND 1 Straight from the opening bell 7 year old Adam Atherley presses the attack like a steam train against his opponent 8 year old Joseph Towers.
Joseph responds and comes fighting back well. Adam attempts a spin kick which hits Joseph on the shoulder keeping the pressure on to the end of the round.
ROUND 2 Adam again powers forward with a combination of straight punches ending in a well timed spin kick. Feeling comfortable now Adam throws a jump spin kick just missing his opponent much to the U.S.K.A crowds approval. Again Adam wins the round with the better variety in scoring technique.
ROUND 3 Growing in confidence now Adam mixes his punches and kicks together well. Joseph stands his ground but is struggling to get his shots off and match Adams fast work rate. Yet another spin landing cleanly on the bell yet again winning the U.S.K.A lad the round. Winner by referee's decision......Adam 'THE MIGHTY ATOM' Atherley
Matt Tracey (U.S.K.A) Vs Mark Withworth (YING YANG)
ROUND 1 Time for the heavyweights now with Matt starting the round fighting well at range behind a long south paw jab and scoring lead leg snap and round kick. mark having to fight the round going backward and struggling to get his offence going.
ROUND 2 Forward fighting again from matt sea's Mark under a barrage of fast punch kick combinations. Mark suffers from a bloody nose and is visibly starting to look tired. Clean work on the outside by Matt again picks off Mark to win the round.
ROUND 3 Matt continues to dictate the pace and range not really allowing Mark to get his shots off. Not changing the winning formula Matt continues with the strategy to see out the round the decision is called Winner by referee's decision......Matt Tracey Snr.
Jake Richards (U.S.K.A) Vs Royce Stevens (BMAC)
ROUND 1 Interesting one this fight with 14 year old Jake Richards taking on the very experienced 13 year old Royce Stevens. Jake knowing the calibre of the opponent he was facing goes straight on the attack to outwork his man. Royce throwing alot of kicks but failing to land them on target. The better work rate and volume of techniques landed capture Jake the first round.
ROUND 2 Stevens knowing he had probably conceded round 1 on the referees card opened up aggressively in the second round but seemed to be loading up with one big shot only to be met with three or four on the counter from Jake. A closer round than the first but again Jake taking it on the volume landed.
ROUND 3 Jake working in three's and four's as in the last round presses the attack. Jake is reading the big single shot better from Royce now and is managing to counter in combinations on top of it also. the high work rate taking it's toll on both fighters now with the action at last starting to slow down slightly. The round ends with once again Jake on top to earn himself a comfortable decision against a very experienced and talented fighter in Royce Stevens.
Winner by referee's decision......Jake Richards
Haroon Khan (U.S.K.A) Vs Ricky Bailey (IMPERIAL)
ROUND 1 Two very well matched 8 year olds with an excellent work rate matched each other punch for punch kick for kick and spin for spin to draw a very entertaining opening round.
ROUND 2 More of the same with both lads giving their all with a none stop barrage of technique. This round had everything, jump kicks, jump kick counter kicks, spin kicks the lot! It would take a better judge than me to try and split them and score this anything other than a draw.
ROUND 3 All to fight for here in the last round and boy didn't both lads do just that. The pace never slowed for a second and it was a case of the unstoppable force against the immovable object. Surely one of the most entertaining bouts of the day and certainly Haroon being in contention for U.S.K.A fighter of the day.
Referee's decision is a well deserved DRAW
Matt Tracey (U.S.K.A) Vs David White (YING YANG)
ROUND 1 Second fight of the day now for Matt and he was matched against an unbeaten fighter with over 10 fights experience who also had a 15kg weight advantage over him. These two had met in Matt's very first fight with White taking the decision so a much improved Matt was out to prove he had learnt a thing or two since the first meeting. Nothing in the first round with both fighters eager to impose themselves on the other. Hardly any kicks were landed by either fighter but some good boxing exchanges left both fighters feeling the effect.
ROUND 2 Matt presses the action from the bell this round catching David off balance dropping him with a straight one two punch combination. All the clean punches this round by Matt but his failure to throw enough kicks again had the referee give the round even.
ROUND 3 This was almost a carbon copy of the second round. Matt pressing back the much heavier man scoring with the hands but smothering his range so that he could not get his kicks out. This was again to be the flavour of the remainder of the round. The referee ruled that although the better boxing and pressure had come from Matt the lack of scoring kicks over the three rounds had gone against him. Referee's decision is ruled a DRAW
Tommy Collett (U.S.K.A) Vs Dominic Pickard (BMAC)
ROUND 1 15 year old Tommy Collett is matched in his first senior bout against 23 year old Dominic Pickard to see if he has what it takes to transfer his juniors success over to the big boys. Dominic starts well and breaks Tommy's rhythm. Dominc's work rate is good and Tommy is struggling to find the gap to place his own shots and is hesitant to stand and trade with the older man. Not much in regard to scoring shots but the first round goes to Dominic for his work rate.
ROUND 2 Dominic again starts fast and strong to try and again upset Tommy's pace. Tommy this time though opts to stand his ground and fight fire with fire and trade. The cleaner counters with the hands are scoring well for Tommy and as the bell sounds the feeling is that it is one round a piece and all to fight for going into the third.
ROUND 3 The third round started fast and furious and in many ways seemed to mirror the pattern of round two. Lots of techniques being thrown by both lads but the cleaner more precise shots being landed by Tommy. The bell again sounds to end the round and both fighters are called to ring centre to await the decision.
Winner by referee's decision......Tommy 'GUN' Collett
Haris Khan (U.S.K.A) Vs Sam Whitworth (YING YANG)
ROUND 1 The bout started very fast indeed with both 7 year olds exchanging a none stop combination of technique at ring centre for much of the round.
A very close and competitive round that could have only been scored a draw.
ROUND 2 Again none stop action with Haris pressing forward with the action in the first half of the round and Sam finishing the round going forward.
Again nothing splitting the two in the second round.
ROUND 3 Both young lads tired now and it was all going to be down to who wanted the win the most. Fortunately for the crowd they both wanted it equally and were once again treated to another round of none stop action. Three rounds with nothing to split them in any of them. Referee's decision is ruled a DRAW
Ridwan Khan (U.S.K.A) Vs Haroon Gulfraz (U.S.K.A) (DEMONSTRATION)
ROUND 1 Due to no suitable match weighing in for 9 year old Ridwan and 8 year old Haroon they were matched to do a competitive demonstration bout that would be judged as a pre arranged draw by the referee. The bout however would be under fight conditions and would still offer both lads some much needed ring experience. Ridwan opted for the lateral movement with a low guard where Haroon took the centre of the ring with the tighter more conventional guard both allowing each other to work with a good selection of technique.
ROUND 2 The second round saw both lads take the opportunity to exchange a volley of kicks mixing between spin, axe and high round kicks. Stepping up the pace now with both starting to mix the punches and kicks together. The styles starting to gel now and the final bell rings after both lads have giving a good account of themselves. Referee's decision is ruled a DEMO DRAW
Paul Lewis (U.S.K.A) Vs Conor Bignell (BMAC) (DEMONSTRATION)
ROUND 1 Paul Lewis again due to no suitable match being found was also matched in a demonstration bout against Conor Bignell. The bout began with both lads throwing good clean combinations of technique showing good variety and control. Their respective styles were mixing well and it was very pleasing to the eye.
ROUND 2 Not looking to prove anything they allowed each other to work not only showing good offence but effective defence and movement in round two. Stepping up the pace just enough without it getting scrappy both lads continued to work as in the last round. the referee hardly had to interject at all which highlights how clean both lads were with their technique. Credit goes to both young prospects for an excellent demonstration of technique. Referee's decision is ruled a DEMO DRAW
Adam Atherley (U.S.K.A) Vs Niamh Towers (YING YANG) (DEMONSTRATION)
ROUND 1 Adam was called to the ring for the second time of the day to be matched in a demonstration bout against 6 year old Niamh Towers. Adam had been chosen to do a demonstration with Niamh due to the fact that he is a very controlled and respectful fighter. Adam showed good movement in the first allowing Niamh to work and throw her technique at will. A tenacious Niamh showed that she has what it takes in the bottle department to go at it against her bigger counterpart.
ROUND 2 Niamh growing in confidence put more pressure on Adam in this round with Adam's tight defence and good movement keeping out of trouble.
Adam showed good listening skills following instructions from his corner to the letter and giving Niamh exactly the learning experience she needed. Referee's decision is ruled a DEMO DRAW
Tommy Collett (U.S.K.A) Vs Murray Paswell (IMPERIAL) (DEMONSTRATION)
ROUND 1 Another demo bout here sees U.S.K.A star Tommy Collett take on the slightly lighter fighter from IMPERIAL Murray Paswell. Tommy fresh off his earlier success showed beautiful control and placement of technique in the opener to pick his shots and defend successfully against pretty much everything coming back at him from Murray.
ROUND 2 More of the same off Tommy in round two coping effortlessly on the defensive with the change of gears by Murray.
ROUND 3 A change of pace from Tommy but still keeping 110% controlled. Tommy pulled out a fine display of technique in the third and gave the crowd a real show of text book light continuous kickboxing. The final bell sounded to the applause of a please audience. Referee's decision is ruled a DEMO DRAW
Stacey Richards (U.S.K.A) Vs Charlotte Hall (YING YANG) (DEMONSTRATION)
ROUND 1 Yet another demo now with 9 year old Stacey Richards giving away age and weight to 11 year old Charlotte Hall. A highly charged Stacey starts fast mixing her technique up well. A controlled Charlotte keeps the action at range to suit her taller frame and longer legs. A good opening round from both girls.
ROUND 2 With the pattern been set in round one Charlotte posed even more problems to solve for Stacey in the second. Charlottes legs seemed to get even longer as she kept Stacey on the end of her rangy kick. This was good practice for Stacey as she has come up against this type of fighter and problems in the past and has been at odds on how to deal with them. The bout ends with both girls happy with their performances. Referee's decision is ruled a DEMO DRAW
Usmaan Ali (U.S.K.A) Vs Cherelle McIntosh (YING YANG) (DEMONSTRATION)
ROUND 1 12 year old Usmaan Ali taking on the younger but heavier 11 year old Cherelle McIntosh in a demonstration due to the weight difference between the two. Cherelle a good pressure fighter used the centre line and went straight for Usmaan closing down the ring. Usmaan using good ring craft and lateral movement circled well and hit with good head kicks on the counter.
ROUND 2 Usmaan opting not to trade punches with Cherelle was content with moving and kick countering staying out of trouble and not getting himself into trouble. As the round drew to a close Usmaan opened up with the hands to show that he had plenty more in the tank should he need to use it.
ROUND 3 The pace really went up in round three with both Usmaan and Cherelle really go for it but still maintain the control element expected from a demonstration bout. Both fighters showed glimpses of nice tidy technique that i'm sure will serve them well in a real bout before to long. Good class of styles in this interesting demonstration bout. Referee's decision is ruled a DEMO DRAW
Jake Richards (U.S.K.A) Vs Reece Stokes (YING YANG) (DEMONSTRATION)
ROUND 1 Jake Richard's services were once again called fro in the ring this time to do a demonstration bout with 11 year old Reece Stokes. This was to serve as a confidence builder for Reece who had had a win in his last four outings. Jake started straight away with lateral movement and allowed Reece to dictate the pace and press the attack. Reece seemed wary at first but when he realised that Jake was not there to take liberties he started to let go with decent combinations and look like a good fighter in the making.
ROUND 2 Had Reece step up the pace now that he had grown in confidence a little. jake was able to step up his offence just enough to keep Reece mindful of his defence.
ROUND 3 Reece was letting go with good variety of technique in this round and Jake had to stay on his toes with good movement. Jake was throwing the head kick to Reece any time his guard had drooped to draw his attention to the opening. Avery productive demo which acted i'm sure as an excellent learning experience for Reece Stokes. Referee's decision is ruled a DEMO DRAW
