SUPERMAN 19TH JUNE 2005

SUPERMAN 19TH JUNE 2005

Much as before this the first of this years Superman events would prove to be a leveller for even the fittest of contestants, but even in the sanctuary of what is usually a cool gym the soaring outside tempretures of 30 degrees plus would take it's toll on those brave enough to compete on such a humid day. Ten heats and a maximum of five points to be had for the winners of each round, objective , amass as many points as possible to win your grouping to be crowned U.S.K.A. Superman. Many superman veterans lined up this year along with new blood too, each with Qasim Nisar's Superman title in their sights, however Qasim was in no mood to hand over his title he had won on the two previous occassions. In the under eight section Noor Muhammed was aiming to keep the superman title in the family Noor brother of Qasim U.S.K.A.'s fitness guru, collected an incredible tally of points to set an unsurpassable target to take the under eights section in quite convincing fashion.
The 9 to 11 grouping saw Hamza Rafiq again stake his claim to U.S.K.A superstardom taking eight out of ten first placings in his section and winning his group in rampant style with an awesome display inkeeping with the fantastic standard he continues to set himself in all aspects of his thus far short kickboxing career. Jake "Bang out them situps" Richards had definately overdosed on the morning cereal, blasting into an early lead in the 12 to 14's section one that try as he might Riess Larvin just could not manage to haul back despite a galant effort, leaving winner Jake to take the section he had last year come runner up in.

The blue ribboned event is always the adult group and competition was as fierce as ever Qasim Nisar was in confident mood of retaining his crown and on the way achieving an incredible record time of 6 1/2 minutes on the dreaded Ski Squat everyones most hated event. But as the contest came to a climax it looked every bit like a two horse race with Champion Nisar going head to head with Challenger Tommy Collett. All the events were close but had Collett taken enough points to dethrone the Reigning Champion. As the result were read out in time honoured tradition of reverse order, the customary chants of "QASIM QASIM QASIM" eventually secumb to the elation of Tommy Collett admirers with the news that it was he, this time, who had become the new fitness supremo and had taken the title of U.S.K.A. SUPERMAN 2005. The competition is always competitive on superman day, but it is worth remembering it is very much about individual targets and to complete the ten events alone is accolade itself. Cheif instructor Neil would like to congratulate everyone who took part and also remind everyone that the proceeds would be donated to the Charity set up in the name one of U.S.K.A.'s favourite sons Azmat Yaqub and we would take the chance to thank one and all for your support.
