U.S.K.A. Student awards 2004

This years presentation awards go to people I feel have worked hard in their training throughout the year and have nearest achieved their maximum potential within that period. Some people have to work harder than others to achieve their goals. And as you can appreciate , a higher level is expected from experienced grades and fighters and it is all taken into account when considering the nominations for each award. To train hard over a full twelve months is very difficult to do but these are the requirements and conditions that are considered for a student achievement award. All this along with good etiquette, respect and general good manners have been part of my decision making process for deciding who is most worthy of these awards. It has been without doubt the hardest ever year for me to pick the winners mainly due to the hard work everybody has put into their training. It seems so because across the board the standard has risen with everyone raising their game . Even using the process of elimination I ended up having to give out more awards than ever before. So with out further ado the awards are as follows.

The first award of the day goes to a beginner who has been training for a very short time. Since he has started the beginners class he has improved and with one week left until his grading I have no reservations in saying I have no doubt he is 100% ready for it ( And that is rare for me ) I am also sure that he will if he so wishes go on to bigger and better things in the future if he sticks to his martial arts training. This award goes to Luke Smith

The next award goes to a young lady with mega potential. She has really shone and gone from strength to strength of late after stepping up her training and putting in more hours in the gym. With an excellent attitude in her training it is a pleasure to teach her. A really nice girl again with a big future in kickboxing if she wants it Miss Safina Ali

Back now to another beginners award. This next award goes to a kid who shows all the signs of being a star in the making. Everything is in place with this kid, good technique, good attitude and excellent commitment to his training. After passing his red belt grading yesterday with flying colours this guy is definitely one to watch out for in 2005. He reminds me of a young Azad Khan and that is very high praise indeed this award goes to Hamza Rafiq

This next award goes to one of our little ninja who’s heart is too big for his chest, two bad experiences in his first two fights could have put him off the ring forever but this instead it motivated him to train even harder and come back stronger than ever to win his first fight in fine style in October. Good technique coupled with a good attitude to his training keeps him on ht right path to continued success in his kickboxing career I give you the one and only Adam “The Mighty Atom” Atherley

This next student is pretty much an all rounder. The way it should be gradings Tournaments superman competitions, this girl does it all. Consistency in her training has seen her improve to become one tough cookie. It is very hard for someone so young to stay focused and although she went through some rough patches focus wise, her dedication shone through to put her in contention for this award. Another lovely girl to teach and official gym cutie pie Stacey Richards

Another all rounder now who has just started to break through and gain some ring success in the competition arena. Again some rough patches with focus throughout the year but came through to finish the year strong enough to be in contention for this award. Good grading results along with a good understanding of technical kickboxing puts her in good stead for continued success. This award goes to last years student of the year U.S.K.A starlet Miss Emily Aston

The next award goes to one of U.S.K.A ‘s outstanding fighters who has had a tremendous year in the ring with much title success along the way. With no losses this year and having to capture the F.I.S.T Midland Area AND English National Titles in more than convincing style this guy has shown growth and maturity in his approach to his game that would put a lot of professional fighters to shame. With continued commitment and consistency this guy I am sure ego on to be a world beater in the future. With a British title shot pencilled in for March next years this guy is definitely one of U.S.K.A brightest stars in the making The one and only Mr Tommy Collett

We move now to the short list for the children’s and adults student of the year and also runner up in each category. Firstly the children’s runner up.

Having to move from one club to another is hard enough task for an adult but to do it as just a twelve year old child is another. This kid became a fully fledged member of U.S.K.A earlier in the year and since then he has not looked back. Winning both the F.I.S.T Midland and English title in quick succession against older opposition this year and then also gaining a win an a prestige fight against the Welsh National Champion he is enjoying a very impressive winning streak in the light continuous arena. A real student of the game that also lives, eats sleeps and I even suspect dreams kickboxing. A real instructors dream. Poor old Kash. In fact the only opponent to stop him this year was a school door which broke his hand and put him out of action. Looking to return early in the new year and challenge for the British title in March the one the only Tyler “The Steppin Razor” Shakespeare

The runner up for the adult student of the year

Another fighter now who has probably the most potential of all the U.S.K.A squad. Natural athlete who earlier this year decided to give up all his other chosen sports to concentrate on his kickboxing training. This has been very apparent as he has improved a good 40 - 50 % and captured the F.I.S.T. English National Title in October in emphatic style. He is now in a position to challenge for the British title and add yet another belt to his growing collection. Last years student of the year and this years runner up goes to our very own Qasim “The Dream” Nisar

The big one now as we move onto the student of the year awards, firstly for the children

Children’s student of the year award goes to someone I believe has made the biggest journey and the one that has most developed in all areas of his training. An all rounder who has had very good grading results excellent tournament performances and is growing in confidence and character all the time which is in turn making him into a more accomplished kick boxer. If he had half as much belief in himself that we all have in him he would be one bad mamma jamma!. Saying that though he has to have the belief in himself now because he is now the U.S.K.A AND MORE IMPORTANTLY MY PERSONAL student of the year for 2004 Jake Richards

Last but by no means least we move on to the senior Student of the year. Well what can I say the first person to do the double and win this accolade two years running. Sean “The Mighty” Quinn, without any exaggeration is an inspiration to us all. If a man with as many commitments and as busy life style as he has can keep up his training as he does what excuse can the rest of us have. Sean However never gives 100% it’s always 150% Constantly striving to better himself and to reach and fulfil his potential in his martial arts life. Making his successful full contact debut in October gave him the channel for his intense training regime and has gave him such a buzz in fact that he has planned god willing another two fights in Feb and March of next year. As well as his own training Sean takes a great interest in everybody else’s training and needs, he is most definitely a club man and the complete team player A top guy fro whom I have a genuine admiration and real respect for and a man that U.S.K.A would definitely not be the same without. Sean “The Mighty” Quinn is he going for a hat trick in 2005 Quinny

In closing I would just like to give a mention and shout out to a few people who only just missed out on presentation awards in by far what was the most competitive year to date. Who knows a little more work and commitment and maybe next year it could be you.
