W.K.A open championships
18th September 2005
On the 18th September U.S.K.A's Qasim 'THE DREAM' Nisar and Tommy
'GUN' Collett along side cornerman Sean Quinn travelled down to Manchester
to take part in the latest W.K.A open championships at the George
Carnell sports and leisure centre. This would be the last time that
the USKA duo would compete under these rules and in this environment
before the World championships in November and they were both hopping
to do well to set them in good stead for Canada.
Qasim waits patiently for the start of his first round bout at the
W.K.A open championships in Manchester.
The bout starts off with Qasim throwing a left lead round kick to
the head which misses just by inches. Qasim wastes no time and follows
it up with a triple jab which pushes his opponent back as the jabs
hit the top of his head.
His opponent moves to the left and THE DREAM catches him with a left
hook/right leg straight leg to the body.
Qasim continues forward and throws eight straight punches towards
the head with most of them scoring. He finishes the flurry with a
rear round kick to the body.
Qasim with his legs now in gear scores a nice rear round kick to the
head followed by two more head kicks in quick succession.
Feeling under pressure and knowing he needed to do something to turn
the fight around his opponent comes forward throwing punches which
Qasim evades with ease.
Qasim constantly scores with the double jab notching up points with
the judges.
A lead side kick to the body touches off his opponents chest and at
this point Qasim is in total control of the contest.
Qasim is mixing up his shots now between the jab to the head and the
round kicks to the body. His opponent does not really know how to
deal with him.
It's all Qasim now as he opens up with a spin kick to the head that
scores.
His opponent turns his back as he is feeling a little out of his depth
against Qasim.
The bout ends with THE DREAM predictably getting the decision from
all three judges.
Though to round two.....................
A height advantage against his next opponent should prove beneficial
as round two of the tournament opens up.
Qasim measures his man with a lead head kick that just falls short
of it's target.
He suckers his opponent in with a lead leg side kick to the body.
Qasim starts to use his jab against the shorter opponent which is
working for him well.
His opponent rushes forward throwing punches but Qasim anticipates
the attack and covers up well.
Qasim has his rhythm now and starts to throw chopping round kicks
to the body which are scoring well and catching the judges eye.
Backing up the kicks with punch flurry's Qasim again is in total control
of the bout and not looking at giving up his lead on the bout.
In full flow and full of confidence Qasim mixes the hands with the
legs right up to the sound of the bell.
No doubt about the result. Another unanimous decision for THE DREAM
from all three judges.
Through to the final..................
The final now and Qasim is facing Manchester's well travelled James
'BUCKET' Cassey.
Qasim as in the previous two rounds of the competition opens up the
action with a range finding lead leg round kick to the head. Cassey
avoids the kick and presses forward on the attack but it looks clumsy.
Cassey then changes strategy and starts to pump the side kick which
Qasim easily avoids.
Cassey gets close and hits Qasim with two hooks to the head.
Qasim responds with two round kicks cutting into Cassey's body.
Aggressively Cassey comes forward only to be met by Qasim's lead side
kick to the body.
Cassey although aggressive and awkward was not landing cleanly enough
for the judges liking and Qasim again gets the nod from all three
judges.
A Victorious Qasim 'THE DREAM' Nisar picks up the gold medal and set
himself up nicely for the W.K.A world championships in Canada in November.
U.S.K.A's second competitor at the championships is Tommy 'GUN' Collett.
In a close bout that saw his opponent smother his work. Tommy struggled
over the one round to get his kicks out and score effectively.
Not alot in it but due to a few more kicks from his opponent Tommy
loses a close call decision.
Unfortunately a bad day at the office for Tommy sees him crash out
of the competition in the first round. this is disappointing for Tommy
as a build up to Canada but everyone is entitled to at least one off
day.
I'm sure both Tommy and Qasim will be back on top form when they take
on the worlds best at the W.K.A World championships in Niagara Falls,
Canada on the 4th November.
