IFA FULL CONTACT KICKBOXING SHOW
SUNDAY 25th MARCH 2007
CADBURY CLUB, BOURNVILLE, BIRMINGHAM.

At only two weeks notice and even more importantly only three weeks before a scheduled ISKA Amateur European title shot USKA fighter Qasim 'The Dream' Nisar stepped into the ring at Cadbury club in Bournville Birmingham to face the latest of challengers this time in the form of IFA Kickboxing's 'Wam Bam' Shammi Rauf.
Shammi has been asking to fight Qasim for almost two years now and it was highly anticipated by both Baggi Singh's IFA Alum Rock club and of course the USKA travelling group of supporters.
The weigh in that took place earlier in the day at the venue saw Shammi with a 2kg weight advantage but still confident regardless of the weight Qasim's coach Neil Kelly smiled and was happy to give away the weight knowing his man was in tremendous shape.
Also just after the weigh in show promoter Kash 'The Flash' Gill asked Neil if he had a young fighter that would be willing to step in against one of his lads Sanjay Rauf and open up the show at short notice. Neil knowing his lads are ever ready made a call and found a willing Haroon Khan more than up for the challenge. The fight was confirmed and it was now two USKA fighters on the card of evenings entertainment.
With the room filled up with cheering fans and the officials in place it was time for the first fight of the evening, a two round junior light continuous bout.
First off to the ring saw a relaxed Haroon Khan taking everything in his stride and not showing any nerves fighting on his first ever evening event.
Second to the ring and to the applause of the IFA crowd saw Handsworth IFA's Sanjay Rauf.

Haroon Khan (USKA) Vs Sanjay Rauf (IFA)

Round 1

The bell sounds and straight away it is Haroon on the attack and it is clear that he is the superior kicker of the two lads in the ring.
Using his legs he backs Sanjay up onto the ropes and mixes his hands and legs together well scoring effectively in the first ten seconds.
Sanjay is showing good boxing skills but is coming out of the exchanges with a low guard and paying the price with some nice round kicks to the head from Haroon.
Haroon shows his class putting his kicks together leading with the left leg round kick to the right leg round kick to the left leg round kick to the right leg spin kick that lands perfectly to the side of Sanjay's head.
Sanjay's movement improves in the last ten seconds of the round and he avoids getting hit with any more of Haroon's big kicks but it is clearly a round to the USKA lad.

Round 2

Haroon opens up round 2 with a cobra right hand that catches Sanjay to the top of the head.
Haroon is sticking more to basics now but just when you think he is not breaking away he pulls a superb axe kick down onto the top of Sanjay's head to once again look the better of the two stylists.
Sanjay's defence looks better in this round and he is warming to the task but with the seconds ticking away it looks to be too little too late with all the impressive early work that Haroon has put in the bank.
Sanjay is pressing forward looking for a strong finish but again Haroon puts a stop to his momentum this time with an excellently executed side kick to the IFA fighters chest.
Both fighters finish the last ten seconds in a furious exchange with nothing to split the two on the bell.
A closer round than the first but one again that Haroon had done enough to win with the accurate kicking throughout.
The fighters take their gloves off and are ushered to the centre of the ring for the official decision to be announced.
The referee in his wisdom decided to give the decision as a draw but made a point of telling the USKA corner that Haroon had indeed done enough to win but as a confidence building exercise had called the bout even not to dishearten the other fighter.

So not really the result we were looking for but understandable from the referee that he was trying to build the confidence of both young lads in the ring.
The Uska crowd would have to wait a while for their main event to happen with Qasim 'The Dream' scheduled to go on only three fights from the end off the card. This wait was made longer when a fighter in the bout before his suffered a really heavy knock out and as a result had to be stretchered to hospital by the paramedic crew in attendance.
This scenario aswell as the hour delay as you can imagine is not what a fighter ready to go to battle wants to witness just before he steps in the ring.
Qasim keeping a cool head, just accepted the situation as it was and wound down to avoid getting tired while the paramedics were away dealing with their casualty.
With the paramedics back in place and Qasim re-warmed up it was time to get back to business and both fighters respectively made their way to the ring. Qasim first to the red and Shammi second over to the blue for what was scheduled as 3 rounds of full contact kickboxing action.
The customary centre ring instructions finished and gloves touched it was now time to see which one of these confident lads were right in their estimations about who was the best.

Qasim 'The Dream' Nisar (USKA) Vs 'Wam Bam' Shammi Rauf (IFA)

Round 1

The first round begins and both fighters look very posed and well balanced with a tight defence. Qasim straight away stalks forward and takes control of the centre of the ring and controls it using a fast accurate jab that snaps of the top of Shammi's forehead.
Keeping Shammi moving around the outside of the ring Qasim also makes good use of his straight leg round kick to the body drawing his attention away from the effective left jab.
Shammi looks hesitant and Qasim has dropped straight into a good rhythm working and scoring in the main just of his left jab and right body round kick.
The jabs from Qasim are getting harder now. No longer just it being a range finder but jolting the head right back of Shammi and making pushing him right off balance.
Qasim is controlling the perfect range, Shammi is missing with his shots but due to Qasim superior reach is still in distance to be hit with jabs, right hands and round kicks.
The bell sounds and just as it does Qasim clips Shammi with another right hand that bounces off the top of his head.
Excellent opening round for 'The Dream' that must have put a dent in Shammi's confidence.

Round 2

Qasim on the instruction of his corner was told to build on his good work in the first round and apply more pressure to force Shammi to make mistakes.
The round begins and again it is Qasim that straight away claims centre ring.
Qasim more aggressive now leading with right hands and backing up his hands with strong round kicks to the body off both the left and right legs.
The strong lunging jab again knocks the head back of Shammi but this one seems to have hurt him more, sensing Shammi's distress Qasim jumps on him and unloads.
Four hard punches and a body left round kick have Shammi looking disorganised and seeing his distress referee Clive Tennant jumps in and administers a standing eight count to give Shammi a much needed respite.
The action resumes and Qasim knows that his opponent is hurt. Qasim has shown in the past that he is a great finisher when his man is in trouble and there is no doubt that this will be on his mind now as the referee waves the contest to continue.
Qasim cobra's in a right hand not allowing Shammi time to shake off the count.
Keeping his man backed up to the ropes he is looking for his time to pounce and Shammi seems to be just on the defensive as he tries to clear his head.
Qasim doesn't have to wait long. A bolo right hand catches Shammi on the top of the head and Qasim goes in for the kill. A straight left, right punch combo followed by a left round kick to the body all find their target and have Shammi trying to cover up to stop the onslaught.
As Shammi tries to manoeuvre his way out of trouble Qasim is on him again, this time the combination is devastating, a text book, left, right, left hook right body kick followed by a right hand and left hook that smashed into the side of Shammi's head and sent him crashing down to the canvas.
The referee picks up the count but it is clear that Shammi has no chance of making it. The count reaches 10 and the winner by KO in the second round looking every bit a worthy European title contender........Qasim 'The Dream' Nisar.
