Goldstar Open Hardy SpicersThe 18th September saw the second Goldstar competition of the year this time staged at the Hardy Spicer Social club in Erdington, promoted by Paul Sutton and official backers world of Martial Arts the team had put together a mammoth show with categories consisting of the usual light continuous, semi contact and weapons sections. U.S.K.A. for it’s part concentrated on it’s specialty, with it’s light continuous team eager to do battle with the many new gyms attending the days event. With this show coming so quickly after the Warriors tournament two weeks before the buzz was definitely there, with outstanding performances from namely Stacey Richards Riess Larvin and Jay Colllett all scoring wins in their relevant bouts. Stacey overcame a weight and height disadvantage fighting permanently on the attack taking the fight to her opponent without so much as one backward step maintaining immense work rate and pressure. Jay Collett proved he was on top of his game giving an awesome kicking display including a spectacularly delivered spinning hook kick leaving his advesary guessing where it had come from, in his bout against an opponent from the travelling Pontypridd Welsh kickboxing team. Riess Larvin had been matched with Derbyshire Panthers fighter Jack Clay a fighter whose reputation had preceded him as a rising talent and future title contender. Clays proved his reputation was deserved in a the contest against U.S.K.A.s F.I.S.T Midland Area 57kg Champion, showing a good tight guard, fluent boxing ability and a heavy right round kick. But for Reiss it was business as usual starting on the front foot and scoring heavily with quick tidy hands and some good long range kicking, knocking his opponent to the floor with a impeccably timed side kick. The well matched pair gave it their all although by the end of the second round it was Reiss who had impressed throughout thus gaining a worthy points victory. Clay for his part had showed plenty enough for the prospect of a rematch being a very real prospect with Larvins Midlands title being up for grabs. As for the rest of the U.S.K.A. results they were as impressive as ever setting the squad up nicely for the M.A.G.B. light con event on October the 2nd .
