Goldstar Nationals 2005The Goldstar 2005 Nationals were again hosted at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre at the earlier Date of 27th Feb and with just I weeks notice the U.S.K.A. crew put out the usual strong showing given that there was such little notice. But true to form the U.S.K.A. physc held true, a fights, a fight and when ever possible the squad are always encouraged that experience is the best teacher, and with that in mind the light con team turned out for their second showing of the year. Headed by the very capable and experienced Sean Quinn the lads and lasses put in a monumental effort epitomised no more so than by Mario Campbell, who despite weighing in at 16 stone still conceding another three stone to a colossus of an opponent, who tipped the scales at no less than 19 stones. His opponent even though armed with only 12 oz gloves still did not daunt the U.S.K.A. heavyweight and not long into a battle of the giants he showed why he knows no fear, with an awesome right that shook his monster of an opponent right through to his boots. Even tough conceding HEIGHT, WEIGHT, REACH,and GLOVE SIZE Mario showed excellent true grit to win a very hard fought draw in a fight he had absolutely no right in taking, thus proving the point that when the going gets tough Mazza gets tougher. Most any other show and Mario would have automatically won the nomination for fight of the day, but when Riess Larvin was matched with the ultra experienced Kieran Taylor from the Pythons gym, he also slipped straight into overdrive providing the spectators with an example of how a kicker will always prevail of a puncher winning what was on paper a very tough fight. In a bout that looked at times to be on the brink of boiling over Riesss showed a maturity and composer to pick and display a fantastic choice of kicking technique also being prepared to mix it with an opponent to whom he was also conceding two years. So ultimately picking fighter of the day would be impossible apart from jointly awarding it to both Mario and Rises who both showed excellence of technique and a true fighters attitude to overcome overwhelming odds to succeed. Other successes on the day were had by Qasim Nisar, Tyler Shakespeare, Stacey Richards, Hazma Rafiq, Haroon Gulfraz, Usmaan Ali. A big shout also to the following fighters who all performed well on the day, many for whom it was their first taste of competitive sparring Eamily Aston, Harun Khan, Ridwan Khan,Haris Khan, Hakeem Farooq
