On the 29th January 2006 Qasim 'The Dream' Nisar went down to fight in the FSK Grand Championships. The tournament was held at the George Carnnal Leisure Centre in Manchester.
In the first round of the competition Qasim was scheduled to meet Arran Lewis , the son of the legendary former world champion Alfie 'The Animal' Lewis. Unfortunately this bout did not go ahead due to Arran sustaining an eye injury in the semi contact category.
This by default put Qasim through to the next round and the semi final of the competition.
The semi final saw Qasim keep his opponent at range with his jab and round kicks. Qasim had the height advantage over his opponent and was scoring well with good combinations and an effective straight leg round kick across his his mans body.
The decision was a convincing win to 'The Dream' which secured him a place in the final.
In the final Qasim was matched against a very hard hitting forward fighter who had beaten up all his opponent in his preliminary rounds on route to the final.
This however did not bother Qasim and he was as confident as ever going into the fight.
Corner man Sean Quinn instructed Qasim to fight fire with fire if need be and to push his opponent back.
The start of the fight was a rough one for Qasim being caught with a low side kick to the groin. The action was stopped just giving Qasim enough time to recover.
When the action resumed his opponent started to get frustrated when he could not land any clean shots due to Qasim's movement and good defence.
Sean Quinn from the corner sensed his opponents frustration and felt the time was right for Qasim to begin to press the action. Hearing Sean's call to go forward Qasim landed a beautiful step jab that had his opponent dazed and sprawled out on the mats.
After the attention from the first aid crew it was ruled that he could not continue and Qasim 'The Dream' was awarded the win by TKO victory.
Another Gold medal for Qasim in what was a very powerful performance.
Qasim would like to thank Sean Quinn for excellent corner work and coaching throughout the day.
