2nd Bi-ANNUAL SUPERMAN EVENT 2004

The 2nd Bi Annual Superman contest for 2004 and the burning question was could Qasim "The Dream" Nisar hold on to his newly won title of U.S.K.A. Superman. Holding on to this title has been achieved before, by non other than Azad "The Wrath of" Khan but today was going to prove a very tough test with numbers of entrants for the contest reaching fifty so competition would be stronger than ever. As always the enthesis of the contest is on personal targets but true to form everyone wants to be the man, or woman for that matter who is proclaimed U.S.K.A superman. Anyone who has ever partaken or even watched a superman contest will vouch for the fact Neil must lie awake at night dreaming up the torturous events that go to make up this most gruelling of competitions, with careful deliberation and a sadistic side to his sense of humour Neil didn't let us down this time either, with some very painful exercises to complete, if the competitors were to finish the course this time they would have to call on every last bit of determination and resolve they could muster.
By way of a warm up Squat thrusts were the first discipline, against the clock with the aim being to do as many as possible, and there were some very high scores to set the contest off to a high standard. The points are awarded by way of the top five competitors in each section amassing awards of points from 1 to 5 with the winner of each group gaining the greater number of points. At the end of the day the winner of each group is the one with the most points, however with such large groupings this year is was a very real prospect that you could do extremely well throughout the day and complete the course, and still end up with no points at all.
The tests varied from standing jumps, to sit ups through to bench dips as well as some of Neil's all time favourites such as the sitting squat for instance which always proves the most unpopular with the competitors due to it's painful effect on the legs, there must surely be a less stressful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, for the spectators however, the sight of grown men almost crying does have a certain callous entertainment value and in some cases it's down right hilarious.
And still they stayed in there, with more tough exercises to endure such as shuttle swims and sprints the contestants were in no mood having come thus far to give up now. The under eights group right through to the adult section were very well patronised which did at least allow a little rest bite between each test but with the exercises targeting different muscle groups you can believe that there would be many aching limbs at the end of the day but with the end in sight the last exercise was the sprints where only sheer will power was all many of the days athletes had left, still striving to notch up that last point or so in an attempt to add to their overall tally.
As said before there are no losers on this day as finishing the given exercises is triumph enough, with all the competitors receiving recognition of their efforts by way of a trophy for one and all, Having said that competition is fierce and the results are eagerly awaited and for some the wait was well worth while as was the supreme effort everyone put in and again in accordance with protocol the final results are as follows with the jnr sections first.
